About The Fountain Project

Integration is the best care for the people.

At the Fountain Project we believe in the power of integration. We bring accessible and compassionate healing through integrative care to those who need it most—particularly underserved communities that lack access to holistic healthcare.

Our goal is to empower individuals through integrated healthcare and education, combining the best of ancient wisdom and modern medicine.

The Fountain Project Foundation emerged out of a recognition for the growing need for comprehensive approaches that address both physical and mental well-being. Our services include:

Medical Care: General health examinations, dental, optometry, and vision care

Holistic Therapies: Acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, osteopathy

Wellness Programs: Meditation, Qigong, Taiji, yoga, stretching, kung fu, boxing

Community Engagement: Music and art therapy, life coaching, creative and professional writing, food is medicine, and childcare

We make these approaches accessible to anyone who needs them, with a focus on reaching unhoused people and others in need from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, through our Health and Wellness Center and outreach programs with partners at Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP), Safe Organized Spaces (SOS), and Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM).

The "fountain" in the Fountain Project represents

a wellspring of nourishment — a source that flows from the earth to sustain life and growth. It symbolizes the continuous renewal of knowledge, skills, health, and economic vitality. Like a well of wishes rising from the depths of the earth, The Fountain embodies hope, abundance, and the power to create positive change.

Our Story

The Fountain Project Foundation (FPF) was founded in 2001 by Hui Liu Chiang and Dr. Erlene Chiang with a mission to bridge the gap between health and equality. They founded the Fountain Project founded on the simple ideas of creating a movement dedicated to service and compassion and a community based on healing.

Co-founders Hui Chiang and Dr. Erlene Chiang began by offering free care to residents of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, and soon thereafter expanded to partner with various Bay Area community organizations, including Bay Area Rescue Mission, Greater Richmond Interfaith Program, Safe Organized Spaces, Wen Wu School of Internal Martial Arts, Today’s Youth Bureau Matters, and others. Wherever help might be needed, Fountain Project offered it, often focusing on communities underserved by, or completely excluded by the organized healthcare system.

Most recently, in 2024 the Fountain Project Health and Wellness Center opened its doors in Richmond, California.  As a site-fixed location to serve patients with regular clinic hours, the Health and Wellness Center became the perfect complement to our longstanding outreach efforts that have delivered health services through our community partner organizations.

Powered by a dedicated community of volunteers, practitioners, and donors, our mission remains rooted in our original dream to bring accessible, compassionate and grounded healing through healthcare and education to all people, wherever they are.
